Artist Statement
Without the ability to recognize imperfection, intimacy would not exist. My work is an exploration of the intimacy that is created from imperfect moments, specifically ones from the world in which I live. Art creates space for me to embrace the imperfections in my life, find the beauty that exists within them, and share those moments with the world. I am a self-taught artist and I don’t limit myself to any one medium. I have worked with clay, acrylics, watercolor, charcoal, pastels and many more; however, most of my art right now consists of watercolor and sketches with graphite and colored pencil. Each of my pieces draws on my past and present, as well as my conceptualization of the world that exists outside of my own. I began creating art to share parts of myself with the world; however, I have realized that you learn far more about other people through their interpretations of your work. You get to learn about the parts of their life that you wanted to share of yours. If a viewer is able to reflect on one of my pieces and share parts of their world with someone else, then I have succeeded in creating a small moment of intimacy through my work.
